What You Need to Know About Your New Hot Tub Spa
Everything we own needs some kind of maintenance and a spa is no exception but, armed with some simple instructions and with the right chemicals and accessories on hand, caring for your spa doesn’t have to be a problem. Here’s what you need to know about your new hot tub spa.
Read the Instructions
The first thing you should do is spend a little time reading the instructions that come with your spa to familiarize yourself with all of its features. Read the chemical instructions and keep them within easy reach whenever you have to add chemicals to your spa or drain and refill it. Gather all of the cleaning accessories and products you will need in order to care for your new spa. These will include:
Spa Chemicals (Minimum Requirements)
The good thing about spa chemicals is that you don’t need large quantities to do the job, as you would with a swimming pool. A small bottle lasts a long time because you’re only treating a small amount of water as compared to a pool. At a minimum, you should have the following:
Bromine tablets
Ph Plus
Alkalinity Plus or Ph balance
Demineralizer/metal out
Water clarifier
Spa Chemicals (Also Recommended)
Water softener
Defoamer (-a chemical additive that reduces and hinders the formation of foam)
PH Minus
Spa Accessories (Minimum Requirements)
Test kit or test strips
Bromine floater (an automatic, adjustable way to release the proper amount of sanitizer into the water)
Spa Accessories (Also Recommended)
Spa Draining Pump
Thermometer
Thermal blanket (-floats on the water’s surface to reduce evaporation, which in turn, reduces operating costs)
Spa Cleaning / Maintenance Products (Minimum Requirements)
Scumballs or scumbugs (-eliminates the formation of scum lines by absorbing up to 40 times its weight in body oils and lotions)
Shell cleaner
Filter cleaner
Spa Cleaning / Maintenance Products (Also Recommended)
Spa vacuum
Cover conditioner
Spa wax
Ozonator (-will allow you to use far less sanitizers, shock, clarifiers and defoamer chemicals. You will have cleaner water that won’t have to be changed as often.)
Fun Items
Spa pillows
Floating bar
Spa side tray
Spa scents (Add specially formulated aromatherapy liquids, crystals or pouches to your hot tub experience to help create the perfect ambience.)
Spa lighting
Yes, it will cost a bit of money to be fully prepared but every time you slip into the soothing water of your new spa, you’ll be reminded that it was all worth it. And, remember, your spa dealer is willing and able to give you the help you need if you have any questions. They want to make sure that your hot tub experience is as easy and pleasurable as possible.
