How to
Repair a Blister in Acrylic Epoxy
To repair the blister first remove it with a utility
knife.
Many modern
items such as bath tubs, spas and sailboats use acrylic epoxy as a covering.
This material is generally durable and waterproof, making it an inexpensive way
to protect many surfaces. However, as the acrylic ages, blisters and cracks can
appear. Don't panic or feel the need to call in outside help if you notice a
blister. With a few basic tools and a repair kit, fixing acrylic epoxy is a
great do-it-yourself project.

Instructions
Things You'll Need
- Utility knife
- 2-component epoxy adhesive
- Plastic putty knife
- 200 grit sandpaper
- Steel wool
o
Step 1
Cut out the blister with a utility knife. Use
a new blade as this cut needs to be precise. Directly beneath the acrylic is
the fiberglass layer on most items; you do not want to scratch that layer. Make
a small circular incision around the blister and peel it free.
o
Step 2
Mix the epoxy repair compound. The kit will
contain a resin and a hardener. Read the manufacturer's instructions to get the
amounts correct, as each brand is different. Use a small plastic putty knife to
apply the epoxy to the damaged area after mixing it. Let it dry overnight.
o
Step 3
Sand the repair job with a 200 grit
sandpaper. Only sand the repair; avoid scratching the neighboring areas. Go
over the spot with some steel wool to give it a smooth finish.
