As a good rule of thumb, if it seems like a too-good-to-be-true deal, it probably is. Below are a few points on how to spot a hot tub spa that may be a little subpar. Inflatable spas are by far the lowest of quality, because, unlike the best spas, the outside shells are not built to endure a lot of bumps and abuse and will eventually puncture. While inflatable hot tubs are cheap options, and they are easy to take down and move, they don't come with the jet streams and other features necessary to meet any therapeutic needs. Is it safe to sit in a hot tub while I'm pregnant?

Experts recommend limiting your use of a hot tub or sauna during pregnancy to less than 10 minutes at a time, or forgoing them altogether, especially in the early weeks. Sitting in a hot tub or sauna can raise your body temperature to a level that can be dangerous for your developing baby. Studies have shown an increased risk for neural tube defects in babies of women who had an elevated temperature before 7 weeks of pregnancy. These are serious birth defects affecting the skull or spine. Some studies have also looked at whether having an elevated temperature increases your risk for  miscarriage . The results were mixed, but it's best to err on the side of caution. To reduce these risks, you'll want to avoid letting your temperature get higher than 101 degrees F, which can happen after only 10 minutes in a hot tub or sauna.
